You don’t see me, but I see you. Turn to walk away, I followed you. Across the street, and up the road. Blood will flow to take me home. You’re what I need, I’m just not meant for you. Across the street so I’ll always be with you. So pure and true, last breath or two. It’s dark and cold, but I see you. She loves you so, not like I do. I’m dead and gone but she’s with you. You don’t see me, but I’ll always be with you. Across the street so I’ll always be with you. Always be with you I did it all for you….. I did it your you. Always, with you… I did it for you.

I really do try. I go in with the best intentions. The mirror. Just staring. And I can't sleep. The thought of having to wake up. Just staring. And my body feels heavy. And my head feels heavy. And your heart... I can't get up and face it. So heavy. What's too heavy? My dreams? Our hope? I can do this. Let me do this. Let me let you down again. Let me not get up again. This weight buckles the best intentions, desires... this weight... get up! Lift up your head I can't my heart is dead Lift up your head...

Time you’re always spending No idea of what’s the outcome (Un)less you turn, stand facing Realities are (their) perceptions You’re their everything, an Innocence ripe for ruin Will you turn, stand facing? Yourself in the mirror? All the time you’re spending Tryin to teach them lessons And you know they’re watching What it is you’re doin You're their everything, an Innocence ripe for ruin Will you turn stand facing Yourself in the mirror A March against will Catch me running up that hill Ain’t that such a thrill? Me runnin' to flatten out a hill? A cup thrown. a temper blown A lesson learned, a child grown All the time you’re spending And you know their watching what it is you’re doing Go and Try to hide it, (it) ain’t gonna happen All the time you’re you’re spending Spending spending spending spending When I hugged my father From a 10 year absence And he said “I’m sorry” ….. When I hugged my father from a 10 year absence And he said “I love you” I’d die to see them smile Why’s it so hard then? Just be sure and tell them Tell them that you love them Tell them that you love them Tell them that you love them Tell them that you love them

about

If familiar with Grave Blankets, one can’t help but feel impending doom listening to their latest album, “We Are Lost”. A constant devil-on-your-shoulder telling you to prepare for the other shoe to drop. You KNOW at some point the bottom is going to fall out and you’ll be spun around in a feedback loop of misery, aurally and emotionally. Well, What the fuck then?
Maybe that’s their master stroke here: making something objectively beautiful and listenable. Sure, the themes and lyrics are as heavy-as-fuck-ever: depression. Love. Unhealthy obsession and stalking. Loss of parents. Facing yourself in the mirror. Parenting. And, the constant questioning of one’s self.
Chains and industrial noises have been put aside here to make room for lush, soothing synths, vibraphones, cigar box guitars, tubular bells and even a flirtation with EDM style production.
It starts with a sultry and poignant guest vocal by Diana Desiderio. In between the emotional outpours GB gives us reprieves of hefty synth washes to reassure the listener. Hypnotic and calming yet not quite … “relaxing”.
The next track “Food Desert” begs us, “lift up your head” only to find that the body has already betrayed us. “Sodium Vapor” is the most successful at bringing the listener a sense of peace and reprieve. “Til They’re Grown” sees GB successfully bringing together two styles they’ve played in: Some amalgamation of sincere guitar/vocal songwriting meets with EDM style build ups and overpowering synth bass to finish off the track with all the lyrical feels GB has been bringing recently. The album is capped off with a field recording and bass drowned in delay. We finish where we started. Literally and emotionally. It’s a beautiful track, listening to the sounds of children playing while the music stretches elastically to match their exuberance. But we know we are listening to a GB album. And when will that other shoe drop……?
